Stortford Sinfonia

Bishop's Stortford Sinfonia

Sunday October 14th 2018  6.00pm

music@stansted has been very excited to watch the creation and successful growth of the Bishop's Stortford Sinfonia, and we are delighted to announce that they will be opening our 2018/2019 season.  We hope that as well as raising awareness of the orchestra's activities in Stansted, this concert will also increase awareness of music@stansted among the music lovers of Bishop's Stortford.

We're delighted to announce that the Bishop's Stortford Independent has generously offered financial support for this concert.  Like the Sinfonia, the "Indie" is another welcome new addition to the cultural scene in the Stortford area, and has given extensive coverage to the activities both of the orchestra and of music@stansted in its first two years of publication.

Putting on a symphony concert is necessarily an expensive undertaking for all concerned, and every additional contribution to our funding helps both organisations to continue providing high-quality live music in Stortford and Stansted.

The Independent's stated aim is to offer a high-quality, relevant, trustworthy, informative and entertaining service to the community of Bishop’s Stortford and the surrounding area.  If you don't already know the paper, do get hold of a copy, or take a look first at their web edition on http://www.bishopsstortfordindependent.co.uk/home

Mozart: Symphony No.31, 'Paris'

R Strauss: Oboe Concerto

Beethoven: Symphony No.2

Founded in 2015, Bishop’s Stortford Sinfonia gives Bishop’s Stortford something that very few small towns can boast, orchestral concerts of truly professional standard. Drawing from the core of excellent professional and semi-professional musicians living locally, the reputation of the orchestra has quickly spread and now many superb musicians travel from far and wide to join the Sinfonia for their concerts. Its members are united by their commitment to music making of the highest quality, and their infectious enjoyment that they share with audiences.

Bishop’s Stortford Sinfonia work with a range of guest conductors, and its core aim is to continue bringing live orchestral music of the highest quality to Bishop’s Stortford, with varied and attractive programmes of the greatest orchestral repertoire. However, in addition, we are looking forward to expanding the work of the orchestra further to include occasional chamber music concerts, and collaborations with other local music groups. We are also delighted to announce the appointment of Emma Oliver-Trend as the orchestra’s Outreach Coordinator. Emma plays violin in the orchestra, but also brings a wealth of experience and passion for outreach and education, and is developing some exciting projects for the orchestra to work with the local community and schools.
