Pop-Up Concert!

Although we don't feel conditions are quite right to get back to our usual concert programming just yet, we have arranged a one-off outdoor concert to keep you going until that day comes!
Professional trumpeter David Clewlow has recently moved to the area and he and his colleagues in the BROOK BRASS ensemble have generously agreed to give a free performance in the gardens of St John's Church on SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 5th at 4.00pm.
Everyone is welcome - we invite you just to come along, bring chairs or rugs if you like, and sit and enjoy an hour of live music with friends and family in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Admission is free to all, although donations to the musicians will of course be welcomed.
Needless to say, the concert will only go ahead if weather conditions and Covid restrictions permit. Although legal restraints have been lifted, we expect that most people will still wish to observe the Hands-Face-Space routines we have become used to (please supply your own sanitiser). Note that toilet facilities will NOT be available.
David Clewlow has been a London-based freelance orchestral trumpet player since graduating from Leeds University with a first in performance in 1975. His solo career has ranged from concertos in the Queen Elizabeth Hall and St. John’s, Smith Square to contemporary music ensemble Sounds Positive and a number of West End musicals – Jesus Christ Superstar, Jacob and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Les Miserables and Blood Brothers. Up to this point, he says, he has not yet played in a Circus!
Brook Brass is based in Wanstead, East London, and gives solo concerts as well as collaborations with local choirs. In September, they will give the world première of John Light's Suite For Brass Quintet, in the annual Friends Of Forest Choir concert. Future events include a performance of Michael Tilson Thomas's scintillating "Street Song" for Brass quintet, the Nine Lessons And Carols service at their home church in Wanstead, and the traditional Walthamstow Town Square community carols singalong.
Four of its members will be playing for us on the 5th: David on first trumpet, Clive Miller on second trumpet, Tim Sullivan on french horn and David Wallace on trombone.
The group's repertoire ranges from the stirring brass sonorities of Gabrieli to 1980’s pop classics, via Mozart, Henry Mancini and Hungarian folk songs! The musicians look forward to introducing each item on the day and giving some background to the music.
We look forward to welcoming as many people as possible on September 5th to celebrate the return of live music to Stansted!
